COACHING & YOUR VALUES & BELIEFS
Coaching around your values and beliefs can be an enlightening
experience. Beliefs actually drive our behaviour and can be
unconscious – in other words you may not be consciously aware of
what your values are.
Coaching will help to make your unconscious value drivers conscious
– which then allows you to start making empowering decisions that
are in alignment with your values and beliefs. A coach will work
with you to make this possible.
COACHING & YOUR VALUES
Values are about how we have learnt to think things ought to be or how people ought to behave, especially in terms of qualities such as honesty, integrity and respect.
THE FIRST STEP – YOUR COACHING RELATIONSHIP AND VALUES
The first step is to clarify your values. The coach will explore what values and virtues you most admire and wish to incorporate in your life. You will then search for examples in your life where you may have displayed these values. The coach will examine how you felt about the action that was driven by your (possibly unconscious) value. If you were true to your values, you should experience a sense of peace around any actions that supported your values.
Interestingly, if you disregard your values, you may experience guilt. If others disregard your values, you may experience anger. A coach will work with you to identify your actions and feelings and as a result, illicit your true values……. A very valuable experience!
COACHING & YOUR BELIEFS
Everything you do is governed by your belief systems and values. Beliefs act as filters because you may pay attention to what you believe to be important and overlook what you don’t think is important. Beliefs are mental constructs you create, based on your life experiences, they help to make sense of the world in which we live
Beliefs are also assumptions you make about yourself, about how you expect things to be, and how the world should behave in general! Beliefs are about how you think things really are. Working with a Coach, you can identify areas of importance to you, and ensure they are in alignment with your beliefs. The next stage in the coaching process is to set goals and actions around those outcomes which support your beliefs.
BELIEFS & BUSINESS
Your belief systems in a business context are extremely important to the performance and success of the business. Just think about whether you as an employee or your staff members believe that they are an integral and important asset to the business and feel they are valued for their contributions.
Coaching explores the values, beliefs, assumptions, and perceptions that motivate, drive, and sometimes hinder your performance.
Business needs to be dynamic to keep up with technological and global initiatives. Change and business have almost become synonymous. A coach will help you to successfully proceed through the process of change, by drawing on your core values, beliefs, passions and strengths.
As you clarify your values and beliefs and turn them into your goals, dreams and passions, you find the ability of turning your dreams into reality. As was once said….."If you can dream it, you can do it.”
COACHING WORDS OF WISDOM FROM HENRY FORD
"Whether you believe you can or you can't, you're right."
