Lily Tomlin was once quoted as saying We're all in this alone.  The need for courage is very clearly indicated in this short and simple statement!

Our road to success is defined and shaped by our own perspectives on life. As such, the journey towards success is a very personal and individual path.

Depending on how you classify your own personal success, it may take courage enable you to face the challenges that will confront you during your journey to your desired destination.

What is Courage?

We usually associate courage with conquering the enemy, going into battle, tackling the thief. But courage is far more profound that being a battle or service hero.

  • What about the courage to face our fears? The fear of taking on a challenge at the risk of possibly failing.

  • What about the courage of speaking out against an accepted principle, in you community or workplace?

  • What about the courage it takes to try something new? To put your everything into pursing a new venture, a venture of success? And what happens if the venture fails?

All these situations take enormous courage to believe in your own success and venture forth.

If, for example, you have a dream of being a writer. To you, that is success. According to your family of medical doctors, the only success in their minds is to be a successful doctor. This means you will have to have courage to stand up for what you believe and desire to do, even if it means disappointing those around you.

Remember the words of Rudyard Kipling Courage is not the absence of fear, it is the control of fear.

Courage can Result in Millions of Dollars

As a college student, When Michael Dell (now the chairman of the Board of Directors of Dell), was a college student, he claimed that he wanted to beat IBM. Such a dream had to be backed by courage!

In 1983, he started his business from his dormitory at the University of Texas in Austin, selling custom-made PCs and components.

One year later, with $1,000 in startup capital, Dell left school and officially set up his business. 

"Being an entrepreneur wasn't on my mind. What was on my mind was the opportunity I saw ahead, which was so compelling."  Said Dell.

When Michael Dell set out, he did not have any idea just how big that opportunity really was. Dell Computer Corporation is now worth approximately $31.9 billion.

Though Dell did not realize the future impact of the internet on business and private lives at the time, Dell Computers now sell approximately $50 million worth of products on the internet daily, making it one of the world's largest Windows-based e-commerce sites.
