Success coaching using the grow model
The GROW Model, devised by Sir John Whitmore, provides a framework both for individual coaching sessions and for the whole process.
GROW is an acronym that stands for Goals, Reality, Options and Will or Wrap-up.
When coaching for success, the coach will, in most instances, take you though the GROW model.
The coaching process is described below :
G – Identify and agree upon the goal or outcome that will determine your success. It is important that the objective for the coaching session is established at the outcome. What are your specific reasons for meeting and what exactly would you like to achieve as a result of the coaching session? The coach will take time to fully establish exactly what it is that you want to achieve.
R - is for REALITY. In this section of the GROW model, you are encouraged to explore the goal or outcome as well as other aspects of your life in order to gain a fact-based and current understanding of how things really are, now.
O – Options : This phase of the GROW model explores options that are available to you, in reaching your success goal. Once you have generated a number of options the next stage of the process will be for you to decide which options you wish to choose to assist you in attaining your goals.
Will - The final part of the GROW model involves the person being coached making decisions and having the willpower to commit to them. Future steps to be taken should be confirmed and the coach should agree with the client how they will be supported throughout the ongoing development process.
The desired outcome from this stage is a commitment to action. Your actions will ultimately determine your success.
Whether it be organizational coaching or individual personal coaching, the GROW model has been used extensively in the coaching
